Sound Healing Didgeridoo

A Journey of Ancient Primordial Sweetness

Sound.
It kicks ass.

What is a Didgeridoo?

The Didgeridoo is basically a long hollow tube, usually about 1-3 meters, that you play through using the vibration of your lips, much like any brass instrument. Although the lips are moving at a much slower rate creating a deeper drone sound. Traditionally a Didgeridoo or Didjeridu is made from Bamboo and many different types of eucalyptus trees, or one of its branches. Modern times Didgeridoos are made from any and all types of materials such as Pvc pipe, Agave stalks, leather, carbon fiber, glass and more.
Traditionally, specifically from the Yolngu aborigine of Arnhem land, the Didgeridoo has many names, “Yidaki” “Yigi Yigi” “Yirdaki, and many more.” Yidaki translates loosly to, a hollow pipe.

I heard a story once where the Scottish explorers who traveled to Australia, heard a sound coming from somewhere in the outback. They heard a sound coming out of the what’s known now, as the Didgeridoo, “Di. jer. ee. doo. A common rhythm that the traditional player would make.
One origin story I remember, was about how the Didgeridoo became to be.
People were gathered around a fire and the wood was running out, so one got up and went to look for more firewood. They came across a long branch that had fallen down, they picked it up and seen that there were termites covered the inside and outside of this particular piece of eucalyptus. They shook the branch to try and get all of these termites off. Then proceeded to blow out the termites from the inside. Just like i would say, all of indigenous cultures, they didnt want to burn all these termites to death. So as they were trying to blow out the termites from this hollowed branch that had been eaten through, out came this primordial, ancient wonderful sound that we know as the drone of the Didgeridoo.

Aborigine would say that this instrument was a gift from the Gods.

On my travels to Australia, I met this wonderful Aborigine man after his stage performance. Had a great time chatting and playing together. We both like David Hudson, one of the pioneer Aborigine that opened up the world of the Didgeridoo to the western and modern world.
He liked to listen to flamenco and didgeridoo. I really like Ash Dargan and soundscape/ atmospheric type of Didgeridoo music, so we both spoke about types of Didgeridoo music we liked.

The Didgeridoo was used for a few things. A rhythm instrument for song and dance in ceremony, ritual and, or around the fire. It was used to makes calls to others in the distance.
Used to make sounds to connect with nature, becoming more in tuned with their natural surroundings. Some might say, for meditation, receiving direction from Spirit or the Divine.
